Markus Jatsch

Dr. Markus Jatsch is an internationally recognized award-winning German-American architect and landscape urbanist. He combines a background in fine arts and philosophy with over 30 years of professional experience in designing and implementing internationally recognized projects and climate solutions in urban planning, architecture, landscape architecture, and public art. He is a Partner at Martha Schwartz Partners (MSP) where he serves as Principal and Creative Director and previously worked with David Chipperfield Architects before joining MSP.
Several honors have been awarded to Markus Jatsch for his work and achievements; these include the Fulbright Commission Award and the City of Munich Culture Award. He is a chartered member of the Royal Institute of British Architects and the Bavarian Chamber of Architects, as well as an elected fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and an elected member of the International Society of City and Regional Planners. Dr. Jatsch received a Doctor of Engineering degree in Architecture and Philosophy with magna cum laude from the Technical University of Munich, a Master of Science degree in Advanced Architectural Design from Columbia University and a Diploma in Engineering in Architecture and Urban Planning from the University of Stuttgart.
Markus Jatsch combines his professional practice with work in academia and research, having taught at such world-renowned design schools as Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design, the Polytechnic University of Milan, and the University of Applied Arts in Vienna. He authored several monographs including Debordered Space (Stuttgart: Edition Menges, 2004) and Landscape Art and Urbanism (Stuttgart: Edition Menges, 2018). His work has been widely featured in various publications as well as in international museum and gallery exhibitions.
Dr. Jatsch holds several advisory board positions, including King Salman Park Foundation and Aseer Investment Company, and regularly serves as juror and subject matter expert for design competitions and award committees. He lectures frequently on socioeconomic and environmental matters such as climate solutions and the urban landscape.
