Antonio Piquera - Camojan

Location: Marbella, Spain

The garden extends over two joined plots, with a total area of more than 4200 m2, where two independent villas have been built. Located on the slopes of a mountain, the original plot had trees native to the Mediterranean climate, but its shrub and herbaceous vegetation had been degraded by building pressure. In addition, the plot presented a remarkable slope of more than 17m in only 100m of development, offering privileged views of the sea and the city of Marbella.

At the client's request, the challenge was to design a garden that would preserve privacy at strategic points without compromising the views, integrating with the native tree structure of the mountain.

The proposal opted for a vegetation cover that would evoke the Mediterranean bush, with a varied, colourful and mixed character, but maintaining the essence of a luxury villa garden.

The project was defined by an organic language and naturalisation as an aesthetic proposal. A balance between order and spontaneity. We worked on key aspects such as reducing consumption and maintenance, mobility within the plot, the relationship between plantings and uses, the geometry of the space, and the perception of a different language to that which has characterised the gardens of Marbella over the last 30 years.

Today, in its third year of life, the garden continues to evolve, surprising us with the way in which the species have grown and mixed, creating spaces of great interest and dynamism.
