Designing a world-class park and green district for Riyadh
Covering 13.3 square kilometers on the grounds of the old airport in Riyadh, King Salman Park will be the largest urban park in the world. Omrania won the international competition to serve as the lead design consultant of this extraordinary urban landscape, integrating ecological, cultural, recreational, and sports amenities.
The master plan envisions mixed-use developments surrounding the central public open areas, shaping a dynamic and sustainable urban district aligned with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 goals. As part of Riyadh’s transformation, the park will enhance livability and global appeal.
Positioned as the new “green heart” of Riyadh, King Salman Park is strategically located near the city’s center and served by five metro stations and 10 bus rapid transit stations. The urban loop—a circular promenade—will accommodate walking, cycling, and autonomous public transport, integrating shaded rest areas and cutting-edge transit solutions.
The park’s climate-responsive design prioritizes thermal comfort, making outdoor activities enjoyable year-round. Inspired by wadi landscapes, branching valleys create shaded gathering spaces and healthy lifestyle areas. Cultural facilities will add vibrancy, reinforcing the park’s role as a community hub.
In collaboration with Henning Larsen, Omrania’s master planning approach fosters dynamic urban spaces attuned to local climate and culture, promoting active lifestyles. King Salman Park is poised to become a global benchmark for recreational and creative communities, shaping the future of Riyadh’s urban evolution.
